A Scientific Programme Committee has been appointed to guide development of the conference programme for the 2018 World Social Science Forum.

A Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) for the 2018 World Social Science Forum has been appointed, the International Social Science Council announced today. The Committee comprises 21 members from across the disciplines and from all regions of the world. Elisa Reis, Vice-President of the International Social Science Council, will chair the Committee, which comprises a diverse group of specialists in different aspects of security and sustainability. A full list of members is available here. We thank those members of the ISSC that provided nominations for Committee members.

The SPC will play an active role in the preparation of the 2018 World Social Science Forum conference programme, including reviewing submissions for panels and papers, advising on themes and plenary speakers, and helping to promote the Forum within their networks.

The 2018 World Social Science Forum takes place from 25-28 September 2018 in Fukuoka, Japan. The theme for the Forum is ‘Security and Equality for Sustainable Futures’, with sessions expected to cover topics such as human security, cyber security, globalization, freedom and democracy. A call for session proposals is now open for submissions by 1 September 2017. More information about the Forum subthemes and the process for submitting proposals is available online.

The series of World Social Science Fora is one of the flagship activities of the ISSC. These events provide a platform for researchers, funders, policymakers, and other stakeholders to debate topics of global significance and to determine future priorities for international social science. The 4th World Social Science Forum will be hosted by Kyushu University in Japan. It is the first time the Forum has taken place in Asia.
